When’s International Men’s Day? 1 man trolls Twitter enquirers

8 Mar 2016

While most people are happy to celebrate all the accomplishments of women on International Women’s Day (IWD), some on Twitter constantly ask when International Men’s Day is, and one man is trolling them hard.

Thanks to the power of Google and its vast analytics, we now know precisely when International Men’s Day is most searched for; for those curious, the day itself falls on 19 November.

However, it’s fair to say that while the day gets a minor mention when it rolls around, the entire point of International Women’s Day (IWD) is to highlight the obvious inequalities when it comes to women both in terms of their access to education globally, and their standing in the workplace.

After all, a report released today by Accenture rather disappointingly suggested that the workplace won’t become properly gender equal until 2065, or 2040 at the earliest.

Are we seeing a turnaround?

Yet some out there completely miss the point, throwing out the question of ‘when’s International Men’s Day, huh?’ every International Women’s Day, as if they are a disenfranchised member of society.

Just to highlight the missing of the point, comedian, writer and Twitter user Richard Herring has kept up an annual tradition of responding to each and every one of these type of tweets for the duration of International Women’s Day.

Immense kudos to Herring for having the energy to deal with so many tweets, although he has said this year that perhaps the tide is finally turning and that the point is getting through.

Here’s a sampler of some of the tweets Herring has been retweeting and responding to.

Although, Herring has had some unexpected help from a rather famous face who, he admits, probably has a little more reach than him.
