Game of Thrones season 4 video effects breakdown (video)

9 Jul 2014

No doubt Game of Thrones season 4 has been everything fans could wish for. And while swathes of the show have been filmed in Northern Ireland, a new video reveals just how vital the green screen has been to the whole process.

In a video just released by MackeVision, the VFX partners of Game of Thrones, the magic of Westeros comes to life in a way you didn’t experience it on TV.

The use of green-screen technology and digital software shows how entire cities were magically rendered, how entire armies were contrived, and how breathtaking otherworldly landscapes appear natural.

While the reality may not be as stimulating as the imaginative creations developed for the show, it is nonetheless a treat to watch real experts at their craft make the impossible come to life.

Besides Northern Ireland, Sky Atlantic’s Game of Thrones has also been filmed in Malta, Scotland, Croatia, the US and Iceland.

No doubt fans of the show eagerly await developments on season 5.
