Gigglebit is Siliconrepublic’s daily dose of the funny and fantastic in science and tech, to help start your day on a lighter note.

To mark the start of National Science Week (9 to 16 November 2014) in Ireland today we thought we’d celebrate with a collection of memes and science-related videos, some thought-provoking and others just funny.

The aim of Science Week is to promote the relevance of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) in our everyday lives and to demonstrate their importance to the future development of Irish society and to the economy.

The 19th annual National Science Week, expected to involve more than 800 events and 250,000 participants, will take place from 9th to 16th November this year.

Organised by SFI Discover, the education and public engagement programme of Science Foundation Ireland, Science Week 2014 will explore and celebrate the ‘Power of Science’ at events in schools, colleges, research institutes, companies, libraries and community centres across the country.
