Google animated doodle celebrates first day of autumn

23 Sep 2014

Google has celebrated the start of autumn with a pretty and colourful animated doodle.

The doodle from Google shows a gardener admiring his trees and as he passes the trees capture the vibrant colours of different tree types in autumn.

Once he gets to the end of his inspection of the trees the leaves fall away to reveal the words “Google.”

The 2014 autumnal equinox occurs today 22 September across the Northern Hemisphere.

The word “equinox” is derived fro the Latin words for “equal night.”

The autumn and spring equinoxes are the only days of the year that the sun crosses the celestial equator.

From here on in temperatures will begin to drop and the days get shorter.
