Flickr is celebrating its 10th anniversary with an infographic charting the photo-sharing website’s key moments from the past decade, as well as revealing that events and contests will take place worldwide throughout the year.

Flickr was the first platform that allowed users to share photos in a widespread manner, the company posted on its blog.

“Together we have defined online photo sharing,” the blog post states. “We were the first significant online community where you could store, organize, tag, and share digital photos.”

Now, there are nearly 2m groups sharing 1m photos on Flickr every day.

The company said it will be celebrating its 10th birthday all year, with events and contests around the globe.

First up in worldwide celebrations, the company is inviting people to share their favourite 10 photos of the past 10 years in the #Flickr10 group.

“We’ll keep the group open for the next two weeks and then select our favorite photos from the pool to publicize on FlickrBlog and through our profiles on Facebook and Twitter,” the company added on its blog.
