#OpeningCeremony and #WorldCup2014 have been trending on Twitter this morning, as users of the microblogging site post their perplexion and disappointment with yesterday’s FIFA 2014 World Cup opening ceremony in São Paulo, Brazil.

Twitter users’ reaction to the World Cup 2014 opening ceremony at the Corinthians Arena centred mainly around poor sound quality and not getting what the nature-themed performance – complete with trampolines and elaborately costumed performers – was all about.

A giant LED sphere flashed welcome messages in different languages at the beginning of the ceremony, followed by performers rushing into the stadium dressed as waves, trees, flowers and raindrops, as representations of Brazil’s natural landscape.

The climax of the ceremony should have been the singing of the football tournament’s anthem, We Are One (Ole Ola), by rapper Pitbull, pop star Jennifer Lopez, and singer Cláudia Leitte, but several viewers found it difficult to hear them.
