BT Ireland’s security product marketing manager, Dónal Munnelly, said he expects ransomware attacks to increase in 2021.

While 2020 brought a significant spike in cyberattacks, BT’s Dónal Munnelly believes this trend is set to continue.

“In 2021, I think we’re going to see a bigger growth in the amount of ransomware attacks,” he said.

Munnelly added that while standard ransomware attacks were already commonplace, companies are starting to see DDoS attacks with ransom notes attached. This is “probably more prevalent” now as many companies have shifted to remote working set-ups.
