We found out more about Ireland’s deep-tech ecosystem and spoke to start-up founders who were recognised at Big Ideas 2022.

“Given the severe global headwinds that Irish businesses are facing, it has never been more important to champion the courage and ambition of Irish founders. Their spirit and drive are the cornerstones of our local and national economies.”

That’s what Enterprise Ireland CEO Leo Clancy had to say ahead of the agency’s Big Ideas start-up pitching event last month.

This event focused on deep-tech start-ups, a community that often finds it more challenging to attract investment because of longer routes to market.

It spotlighted innovations including an injectable gel treatment for knee osteoarthritis, AI-powered video summarisation, a medical device to treat dry eyes and a tool to lower carbon emissions.

NovaUCD spin-out NanobOx took home the main One to Watch prize, while Galway’s Fada Medical grabbed the Viewers’ Choice award.
