After a dazzling spell as the Silicon Valley darling, it soon came time to blow the whistle on Theranos.

Most people by now will be familiar with the fate of Theranos, the blood-testing start-up that suffered a monumental fall from grace.

At the height of the company’s glory, a freshly graduated Erika Cheung secured a job there as a medical researcher. A few months into the role, though, she spotted the warning signs.

“The technology didn’t work,” she told the Inspirefest 2019 audience. “The devices were nothing more than wishful thinking.”

Cheung said her attempts to flag concerns internally were unfruitful, and that’s when things quickly began to unravel.
