More than 80 companies were on the lookout for top talent at GMIT, with 1,000 students and graduates in attendance.

Many employers are still in their ‘graduate season’, looking to hire fresh talent from institutions across the country.

To find out more about what companies are looking for, we visited the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) Careers Fair, where students and graduates had the chance to meet with representative from firms such as EY, Accenture and Genesys.

Companies exhibiting at the fair had high expectations, with some having recruited new team members at the previous year’s event. Overall, 93pc of graduates from GMIT are employed across a wide range of industries.

We also learned about the skills employers are prioritising in their searches, including technical knowledge as well as softer skills such as problem-solving, adaptability and a good attitude.
