John Romero is a legend in the gaming industry, but his rise to prominence was by no means a walk in the park.
He might be a legend of the gaming industry now, but back in the late 1960s and early 1970s, John Romero had little to know idea about what science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) was.
Speaking at Inspirefest 2017, he said “STEM was nowhere to be seen in that hot desert” of Tucson, Arizona.
“Access to STEM was for the privileged. I didn’t know what a chemistry set looked like, and I didn’t even know what chemistry was,” he said.
