The Inspirefest audience was riveted by the presence of cartoonist and writer Liza Donnelly.

Liza Donnelly silently drew the crowd on her iPad before beginning her presentation in earnest at Inspirefest 2018. The audience was immediately relaxed as she outlined the key tenets of how she worked with four simple words: “Listen, watch, wait, observe.”

A cartoonist at The New Yorker for decades, Donnelly told of how technology has transformed her life through the practice of live-drawing, which she only picked up a few years ago. Since that fateful day, she has drawn the Oscars twice, the Women’s March and a White House press conference, among other events.

For Donnelly, the internet is full of possibilities. “The beauty of the internet is that you get to understand better than you did before.”

A keen believer in the collective power of people to instigate social change, she is equally passionate about taking a step back from digital life from time to time.
