Simon Harris kicked off Inspirefest 2018 with an opening address that touched upon the incredible change Ireland has seen due to a series of influential political movements and referendum changes.

Inspirefest’s Ann O’Dea dubbed the Ireland of today “a new Ireland” before introducing the Minister for Health Simon Harris, TD. He opened up the conference with a speech that namechecked various factors that have contributed to the total transformation Ireland’s political landscape has undergone in recent years.

Everything from the marriage equality vote to the recent successful campaign to repeal the Eighth Amendment – which Harris called “an outdated and oppressive article of the Irish Constitution” – has made it abundantly clear that Ireland has changed, and the pillars Inspirefest holds up are ones that Harris hopes the country will emulate in the future.
