Tales of the kind of perks and benefits available to people who work in young tech companies have been almost elevated to mythical status. This, coupled with the photos and videos that often circulate of the well-furnished offices, can make a lot of people yearn to work there.

Unless you’re a software engineer, you may not be sure if your skills are useful to an organisation such as Slack. Would you be surprised to learn, though, that empathy could be something that helps you stick out from the crowd when applying for a job with the company?
