At its Shannon site, Jaguar Land Rover is developing a smart wallet with the aim of using cryptocurrency rewards to make roads safer and more environmentally friendly.
Aaron Hetherington works on Jaguar Land Rover’s distributed ledger technology team in Shannon, where there’s “a lot of cool and interesting projects happening”, he told Siliconrepublic.com.
With coding skills and “a small bit of cryptography”, he explained that the team is developing smart wallet technology, which would allow drivers to earn cryptocurrency credits by communicating information about road congestion and potholes. The credits could then be used to automatically pay for tolls and electric parking, for example.
