Careers reporter

We are seeking a journalist capable of producing accurate and engaging reporting on the STEM careers sector and creating original features for a sci-tech careers audience. This will be a full-time, permanent position (following six months’ probation) reporting to our editor.

About the job

This role involves writing news (300-500 words) and features (1,000-1,200 words) relevant to both those working in STEM and those recruiting in STEM.

This role requires taking direction from our senior editorial team as well as sourcing and researching your own original stories and communicating with sources for information. It will also include interviews (including, potentially, both video and audio interviews).

The salary scale is set at €26,000-€30,000 pa, depending on the level of experience of the applicant, and the level of training required.

This role is fully remote, open to anyone with the relevant skills and experience, working from anywhere in the Republic of Ireland. However, the company is headquartered in Dublin and there will be times when on-site presence is required, whether at meetings or events.

Who should apply

This role is suited to someone who can produce content focused on professional development, skills and career opportunities in STEM with speed and accuracy.

The ideal candidate will be able to identify the stories worth sharing and craft engaging headlines to draw readers in. They must be able to follow a style guide and be committed to conscious and accurate reporting according to Silicon Republic’s style, strategy and values.

They will also be interested in growing the Careers section of the site and be proactive in generating great ideas for features and commercially driven content.

A background in science and technology is desirable, but not necessary if the candidate can demonstrate a passionate interest in STEM careers coverage, professional development advice, and the evolving nature of work.

The ideal candidate will also need to be comfortable with remote work and able to communicate effectively while working independently.

If this sounds like you, and you can demonstrate a strong mix of the below, we would like to hear from you.

  • Exceptional command of written English and a keen eye for grammar
  • Keen interest in science and technology and its impact on society and the future of work
