Storyful plans job growth as it opens new Dublin office

7 Nov 2016

Online content validator Storyful has announced plans to create a number of jobs as it opens up a new office in Dublin.

The social media agency has also revealed plans for future growth over the next two years.

As part of the company’s planned expansion, Storyful has announced that several job openings will be made, ranging from paid internships to senior-level positions.

Some of the key areas of focus for recruitment include roles in cloud ops engineering, content strategy and corporate intelligence.

Currently, the new HQ is home to half of the executive team and many key leadership positions, including its director of news, financial controller, head of HR and director of intelligence.

Speaking at the office opening this morning, Storyful CEO Rahul Chopra said: “I am biased but I think our team is the best in the world at all things social, and nobody can deliver the level of depth and insight Storyful provides.

“We track conversations big and small, important and humorous, to bring our partners the moments that matter to the audiences they’re trying to reach. So much of that fascinating work is happening here in Ireland.”

Created by former broadcaster Mark Little, Storyful was acquired by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp for around €18m in 2013.

Little, now MD of Twitter in Ireland, set up Storyful in 2010 after he had an epiphany about where media was heading.

Little felt the future of journalism was due an imminent change, so he left a successful career at Ireland’s national broadcaster, RTÉ, where he had been Washington correspondent and presenter of its flagship current affairs programme, Prime Time.

He treated social media with suspicion and began Storyful as an online agency first, before pivoting towards a winning formula of discovering and validating accurate and genuine video online.

It was successful enough to attract News Corp and, since being bought up, expansion has followed even if profits have not.

Accumulated losses at Storyful increased to €10m at the end of last year, as the company increased employment levels significantly.

In its abridged accounts, Storyful said its profit and loss account showed a deficit of almost €10.4m, compared with €5.9m a year earlier.

It had been reported by The Irish Times over the weekend that the company was to create 70 jobs at the office, but this is as yet unconfirmed.
