A new Irish biscuit company, East Coast Bakehouse, is creating 100 jobs in Drogheda, including R&D roles, at a large-scale biscuit manufacturing facility.
A €15 million total investment will create a state-of-the-art bakehouse, innovation facility, warehouse and offices in Donore Rd business park.
The innovation facility is what interests us most. Presumably it will relate to recipes, ingredients, machinery application and the likes, but we’d like to think it’s just combining Mikado biscuits with Jammy Dodgers.
The domestic biscuit industry is worth €170 million, and the UK market is valued at more than €2 billion, with Enterprise Ireland backing this new venture that’s creating the jobs in Drogheda.
“We carefully evaluated a number of locations for our facility before selecting Drogheda, and our location on Ireland’s east coast will play a key role in the future of our company,” said East Coast Bakehouse CEO Michael Carey.
“We have worked very closely with Enterprise Ireland on this project and we have been encouraged by local support so far for the development of this facility.”
“We are very pleased to be launching this new venture. Our management team combined has over 60 years’ experience in the sector and our drive to bake better biscuits, using select ingredients in a sustainable manner, will become key to our business’ success in the coming years,” he concluded.
