The start-up scene suffers from a diversity problem. Arlan Hamilton and her team at Backstage Capital intend to use funding to fix it.

The main unifying force for the team at Backstage Capital is a shared passion for the venture capital firm’s founding vision. Lolita Taub, Christie Pitts and Brittany Davis are all happy to say they play a role in bringing Arlan Hamilton’s dream of a more diverse start-up scene to life.

They contribute to making this a reality by working to identify and drum up funding for underrepresented founders. This aim was realised in the company’s ambitious and successful bid to fund 100 start-ups with at least one founder who is a woman, a person of colour or a member of the LGBTQ community.

The team held court on the Inspirefest 2018 stage to expand more on the power of venture capital to correct issues of diversity.
