Dan Kaminsky, the security researcher who uncovered a critical flaw in the internet’s Domain Name System, will visit Dublin next month to give the keynote address an event to mark the 15th anniversary of INEX, the Irish internet peering group.
Dan Kaminsky, the security researcher who uncovered a critical flaw in the internet’s Domain Name System, will visit Dublin next month to give the keynote address an event to mark the 15th anniversary of INEX, the Irish internet peering group.
Kaminsky (pictured), will speak at a day-long industry conference to be held at the Mansion House in Dublin on 22 September. In addition to his work in finding the DNS flaw, Kaminsky also led what became the largest synchronised fix to the internet’s infrastructure.
His work in security research goes back more than a decade, and includes advising technology companies including Cisco, Avaya and Microsoft. He worked with Microsoft for three years on Vista, Server 2008, and Windows 7.
According to his blog, Kaminsky is currently developing systems to reduce the cost and complexity of securing critical infrastructure.
The conference organisers said his presentation next month will look at the continuing problems with internet security, the origins, transparency in network traffic manipulation and what the industry needs to learn from the recent Sony breaches.
Delegates at the event will also hear from Geoff Huston, chief scientist from APNIC, who will be giving his insights to the economics of IPv6 migration. Operating from Australia, Huston has spoken regularly over many years about the issues and timing of IPv4 address exhaustion.
Other topics and speakers at the event include Nicholas Fischbach from Colt Telecom who will be looking at L2/L3 integration issues and Dan Rees from MRV who is scheduled to give an overview of developments towards 100Gigabit Ethernet, which is said to be one of the cornerstones of next-generation networks.
Valdi Sigurdsson from Emerald Atlantis will speak about the challenges and solutions involved in laying 100G trans-Atlantic fibre which the company announced recently.
