Career memes of the week: doctor

18 Jun 2013

Daily apples, waiting times and bad handwriting feature in this week’s career memes that cheekily pay tribute to doctors.

All doctors who wish to practise in the Republic of Ireland should be registered with the Medical Council.

The first step, however, is to complete a recognised degree. Once a student earns said degree, he or she should register with the Medical Council and complete an intern year with one of the hospitals recognised for this purpose, according to NUI Galway.

The pursuit of a career as a doctor requires commitment. Junior doctors, for example, work an average of 54 hours a week, Irishhealth.com reports.

In terms of compensation, the same report points out that basic junior doctor salaries in Ireland range from €30,000 for an intern just out of medical school to €76,000-€79,000 for a specialist or senior registrar. These figures do not include allowances juniors are also entitled to receive.
