Gallagher leaves 3 to head up infrastructure firm

21 Jul 2011

3 Ireland’s director of business and new initiative Damien Gallagher has left the mobile operator to head up infrastructure consultancy KN Network Services. Gallagher spearheaded the delivery of the €233m National Broadband Scheme that brought broadband to 99pc of the country.

Gallagher has taken up the position of managing director of KN Network Services. The infrastructure company was involved in the fibre-to-cabinet deployment for BT in Northern Ireland so the appointment signals an interesting role Gallagher may yet play in the national digital infrastructure agenda.

KN Network Services’ core activities are telecommunication infrastructure, consultancy services, transport rail and roads, renewable energy and home and energy services.

The company turned over €89m in 2010.

“In relation to telecoms, we work with all operators in Ireland and UK in the provision of fibre to the cabinet, fibre to the home, base station builds and microwave and radio installations. We also work internationally on projects,” Gallagher said.

Gallagher has more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. Prior to his role at 3, where he drove the National Broadband Scheme, Gallagher held a number of senior positions at Telefonica O2 Ireland and global telecoms company Verizon.
