Carphone Warehouse Ireland boss to spearhead Chinese expansion

5 Oct 2011

The CEO of Carphone Warehouse in Ireland Stephen Mackarel is leaving to take up the COO role of the technology retailer’s businesses in China. It is understood he will remain on the board of the Irish group.

In 10 years, Mackeral grew Carphone Warehouse Ireland from an unknown retailer to a household brand with more than 80 outlets. Carphone has a market share of almost 30pc in the mobile phone market.

Peter Scott, director of sales and marketing at Carphone, has been appointed to the position of general manager in Ireland.

“We are in an exciting time for the communications industry, with more powerful and useful devices coming to market all the time,” Scott said.

Scott’s main focus will be to continue the growth of Carphone in Ireland. Carphone recently invested more than €500,000 in its new connected world format stores in Dundrum Town Centre, Mahon Point in Cork and Henry Street, and will open new stores in Castlebar and Portlaoise before Christmas, with the creation of 15 jobs.
