Former regulator appointed to Competition Authority

Former regulator Isolde Goggin has been appointed to The Competition Authority for the next six months.

Goggin was chairperson of the Commission for Communications Regulation from 2004 to 2006, and commissioner from 2002 to 2004. Before joining ComReg, she was director of the regulated markets division at The Competition Authority. She has also worked in the Directorate for the Information Society in the European Commission.

She started her career with Telecom Eireann (now eircom) as an engineer, before moving into business management and regulation.

She is currently a consultant and is also a member of Ofcom’s Advisory Committee Northern Ireland.

She holds an engineering degree, an MBA and a post-graduate degree in European competition law.

Making the appointment today, the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O’Keeffe TD said Goggin would make an important contribution to the work of the Competition Authority and in supporting Government policy to boost competitiveness, keep prices down and drive productivity across the economy.
