With so much jobs activity happening in the Irish tech sector, this year’s Career Zoo will highlight opportunities in this area, with a large number of IT employers expected to be recruiting on the day, as well as a range of tech activities and workshops planned.
Career Zoo’s organisers predict there will be about 4,000 job opportunities at the event. Both EA Games and Microsoft, who announced new jobs this week, will be recruiting at the event, as will IT Alliance, Arvato and PSC Biotech.
Overall, there will be a major focus on the Irish software sector, with software initiative IT’s Happening Here representing 1,500 open roles with Irish companies.
The Tech Box
Career Zoo, which takes place on Saturday, 22 September, in the Convention Centre Dublin, will feature a Tech Box for the first time. This area will host a range of tech activities throughout the day, including App Factories from Microsoft, where visitors will learn how to build an app in an hour.
Speakers at the Tech Box include three Microsoft engineers who will give an insight into their daily working lives; James Whelton, co-founder of CoderDojo, who will be discussing how to get involved with the coding movement; as well as representatives from AOL, Amazon and Swrve.
Microsoft, one of the sponsors of Career Zoo, will be inviting visitors with innovative IT-based ideas to the Microsoft Ideas Hub in the Tech Box, to present to a team of skilled developers for feedback. Some drop-ins to the Ideas Hub will be permitted on the day, but those interested should email ideashub@live.co.uk with ‘Ideas Hub’ in the subject line in order to ensure a slot and avoid disappointment.
Careers Workshops
There will also be a Careers Workshops area, with speakers from Accenture, Twitter, IT Alliance and Biomarin, as well as a number of workshops. Richard Eardley, MD of Hays, will demonstrate how to prepare a successful CV, interview, and career strategy; while Mark Deegan, lecturer and industry engagement officer at DIT School of Computing, and a representative from the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training, will discuss upskilling for a career in the tech sector and pharma sector, respectively.
Activities in the Tech Box and Careers Workshops space are available on a first-come first-served basis. The Tech Box will cater for the first 50 visitors to each activity, while Careers Workshops can accommodate up to 100.
