Experienced workers urged to join programme

The Irish Centre for Business Excellence (ICBE) is calling on experienced and professional individuals who are eager to rejoin the workforce to join a new programme.

The ICBE Begin Again programme aims to help skilled unemployed workers take advantage of one of the 200 work placementopportunities available nationwide.

The programme has the participation of businesses and institutions, such as SR Technics and Boston Scientific, and provides participants with the opportunity to partake in a “highly targeted” 12-week work placement within a suitable company.

According to the ICBE, the strength of the programmes is its ability to successfully match individual skills and expertise with industry gaps and opportunities.

Pat O’Connor, CEO of the ICBE, said: “Over the last two years, the ICBE through its membership has seen the impact of the global recession and the loss of thousands of highly qualified and experienced people. We are very conscious of this pool of talent and wanted to find a way to get these individuals back into the workforce.

“The Begin Again programme is offering people the opportunity to help themselves and avail of the work placements, giving themselves the very best possible chance of re-entering the workforce.”

Participants will meet with a number of companies to discuss the benefits of a work placement and gain mentoring support and training, while the company gains an additional member of staff – resulting in full-time employment for the employee and securing an up-skilled, focused employee for the business.

“The Begin Again programme is a free service! All that it requires is the personal motivation of the individual. We currently have work placements available right across the country, including Dublin, Galway, Cork, Limerick and Waterford. These positions include roles in IT, accounting, research, office administration and sales and marketing,” said Mike Gaffney, spokesperson for Begin Again.

All participants taking part in the Begin Again programme must have availed of unemployment assistance from Social Welfare for a period of three months.
