Computer maker HP has appointed George Kadifa as executive vice-president of the company’s Software business, a role he takes over from Bill Veghte, who has been named HP’s chief operating officer (COO).
Both roles are effective immediately.
Kadifa, a 30-year veteran of the IT industry, will report to president and CEO Meg Whitman, and will join the HP executive council.
He will lead HP’s multibillion-dollar IT Performance Suite software portfolio, which helps enterprise IT organisations manage and secure IT from applications to infrastructure in the cloud and on premise across platforms.
Kadifa previously worked at global technology investment firm Silver Lake, where he served as operating partner for the Value Creation Team. In that role, he was responsible for driving operational improvement and growth in a range of enterprises within the 24-company portfolio of the firm’s large-cap investment fund.
Veghte, ad COO, will help boost the execution of the company’s strategy by working across HP to drive innovation and customer satisfaction. He will work closely with Whitman as well as HP’s executive council to support projects affecting the company’s operational success.
The appointments come a week after HP confirmed that as part of a multi-year restructuring drive, some 27,000 workers – 8pc of its workforce – will exit the company by the end of 2014. The restructuring is projected to generate annualised savings in the range of US$3bn to US$3.5bn.
