PressReader on the hunt for tech talent as Dublin office opens

16 Nov 2017

PressReader boasts 7m monthly users worldwide, and its Dublin office will aid its rapid growth.

Today (16 November), Canadian company PressReader announced the official opening of its new Dublin office as it sets out to fill 65 positions in the country, with its Irish staff currently numbering five.

CEO Alex Kroogman said: “We see a lot of great things happening in the tech sector in Ireland and we’re excited to be another large force that’s pushing the industry forward.”

PressReader is a global platform that allows users to choose from more than 7,000 top-quality publications online or via an app. Its homepage and content selection tool help users to discover content they like by directing them to stories read by users with similar tastes and interests.

PressReader gaining ground

“Now that we’ve opened our Dublin office, we’re starting our search for top Irish tech talent. Our first goal is to hire developers to help build and enhance PressReader’s machine learning capabilities. Initiatives like CETA, the Canada-EU trade agreement, make it possible for us to find the very best people to fill these high-skill positions and compete on a global scale,” said Kroogman.

PressReader has been gaining ground in Ireland’s hospitality sector, with many five-star hotels offering complimentary access to the platform, including The Shelbourne and Ashford Castle. The company is also making its mark on the air travel market, thanks to a recent partnership with Cathay Pacific to bring PressReader to roughly 34m customers.

Irish publications on the PressReader platform range from The Irish Times and The Irish Examiner to Hot Press and a number of regional publications. Globally, users can find Le Monde, The Guardian, NME and The Washington Post on PressReader.

A shift in media consumption

CEO of IDA Ireland, Martin Shanahan, said: “PressReader helps publishers and brand partners take advantage of the ongoing shift in media consumption habits as more people read and access content digitally.

“It has helped thousands of publishers evolve from initial on-demand distribution to digital, opening up new growth opportunities while safeguarding the future of quality journalism and helping readers discover great content. We are delighted to support them in helping to build their team in Ireland.”

Kevin Michael Vickers, the Canadian ambassador to Ireland, said: “With the Canada-European Union (EU) Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) provisionally applied, we expect to see more Canadian companies follow in PressReader’s footsteps and take advantage of Ireland’s strong and growing tech sector, the access to the European market it offers, and the ever-growing commercial ties between our two countries.

“I would like to wish PressReader much success in its continued growth and global expansion.”
