In her Inspirefest 2015 keynote, Prof Linda Doyle, director of Science Foundation Ireland’s CONNECT centre, advocated for the inclusion of art in the study and application of science, technology, engineering and maths, changing the collective concept from STEM to STEAM.
Doyle said she would like to see the perspectives of artists and designers included much earlier in the process of developing technologies, and believes this to be essential for emerging areas such as the internet of things.
Inspirefest is Silicon Republic’s international event connecting sci-tech professionals passionate about the future of STEM with fresh perspectives on leadership, innovation and diversity.
