Jazz bang on tune with €50m, 50-job expansion in Roscommon

2 Aug 2016

Roscommon is the home of Jazz Pharmaceuticals’ latest Irish site, with a €50m facility to house 50 new employees over the next three years.

Already employing 100 people in Dublin, US-headquartered Jazz Pharmaceuticals has completed its two-year build of a new €50m manufacturing and development facility.

Adding 50pc to its total Irish workforce, Jazz chief executive Bruce Cozadd said Roscommon’s “excellent track record” in supporting pharmaceutical companies helped in choosing a location.

“This new manufacturing and development facility is an investment in Ireland and also an investment in our growing global infrastructure, which will enable us to more closely oversee and control the process of bringing high-quality products to patients,” said Cozadd.

“It is particularly meaningful for us to open it in Ireland, close to our global corporate headquarters in Dublin,” said Cozadd.

The new facility has recently gained full approval from both US and Irish authorities, adding to a global operation with a presence in the UK and Italy, too.

Jazz now adds to a very strong pharma and medtech cluster in the west of Ireland, with Roscommon, Galway and Mayo home to a growing number of domestic and foreign firms.

“Today’s opening and significant investment by Jazz Pharmaceuticals is hugely important for Monksland,” said Minister for Communications Denis Naughten.

“It is a testament to the talent and expertise of the people of Roscommon. We welcome the new facility and greatly appreciate the investment and loyalty to the region shown by Jazz Pharmaceuticals and to the people of Roscommon.”

The news follows SiteMinder’s decision to create 100 jobs in Galway today, amid the hotel technology company’s own EMEA expansion.

Europe constitutes the greatest proportion of SiteMinder’s total customer base, with the continent expected to become the first to see online booking become the primary process for purchasing travel products by the end of 2017.

Meanwhile, in Belfast, financial services company Tullett Prebon is opening a fintech hub, creating 300 new jobs in the process.

Saying the new facility will play a “key role” in the company’s global technology strategy, Luke Barnet, group CIO, said Belfast was chosen after numerous sites were investigated.
