Fergal O’Byrne, former CEO of the Irish Internet Association (IIA) and current CEO of tech start-up Sonru, will be joining the board of the .ie Domain Registry as a non-executive director.

With 20 years of experience in the internet industry, O’Byrne was part of the original team that helped set up Eircom.net and took charge of internet projects including the Doras directory, which was used widely by Irish internet surfers in the late Nineties and early Noughties.

After moving on from CEO of the IIA, O’Byrne took on the role of CEO of tech start-up Sonru, which provides an online video interview service.

He was recently chair of IGOpeople.com, as well as sitting on the board of GiftsDirect.com and writing several books, including 10 Technologies Every Executive Should Know and Online Marketing & Search Engine Essentials.

“I am extremely pleased that Fergal O’Byrne is joining the board of the IEDR,” said IEDR chairman Prof Sean Scanlan.

“He brings a wide range of experience in both technology and the commercialisation of the internet throughout a long and distinguished career. His broad range of expertise means he is well equipped to contribute significantly to the IEDR as we continue to develop Ireland’s .ie namespace.”
