Internet giant AOL said this morning it is to create 50 new software engineering jobs at its Dublin Development Centre over the next two years. The aim is to become a leading provider of internet advertising technologies.
AOL is moving to new headquarters in Dublin city centre from its base at Citywest where it has been for the past 10 years.
The new Dublin city centre operation will develop internet advertising technologies, services and user content through the wide range of AOL content brands.
Dublin is AOL’s development engine for Europe and works alongside its sister development centres in San Francisco, Dulles, New York and Bangalore.
The Dublin Development Centre currently employs 110 people, dedicated mainly to its advertising services – ADTECH and AOL Advertising – and to developing user applications for use on platforms like AOL Search and properties such as AOL Money & Finance.
AOL’s portfolio of technologies attracts an average worldwide audience of 250 million unique visitors each month, according to comScore Media Metrix April 2010 Unified Data.
“This is a really exciting time for AOL, and in particular for the Dublin Development Centre,” said the head of AOL Global Operations Limited, Aengus McClean.
“As an independent company again we have a clear direction, and are very focused on building the best applications and services for our customers and business partners. Dublin has been central to AOL’s success over the years and will be integral to our future development.
“For this new era we will be positioned in the city centre which will give great additional energy to the organisation and we’re confident will be a highly attractive place to work for new recruits”, he added.
AOL’s new jobs in Ireland are all high-value, experienced, professional software engineering and management positions.
There are more than 20 roles to be filled immediately and the majority are for candidates with Java and .Net qualifications, along with two to three years industry experience. AOL recruiters and staff will be on hand at this week’s epicentre conference at Trinity College to meet with interested candidates
New recruits will work alongside their global counterparts, have good opportunities for travel and enjoy highly attractive benefits as part of their packages.
AOL is building its content and technologies which attract audiences, allow publishers to create material for those audiences and ultimately attract advertising. Secondly as an advertising facilitator, AOL has targeted becoming the world’s leader in brand marketing on the web.
According to the Kelsey Group, the online advertising market is estimated to be worth more than $20bn. AOL helps businesses, publishers and other sellers communicate directly with their customers in more simple, integrated ways.
