Patrick Street, Grand Parade, Paul Street and the Boardwalk in Cork city centre have become the first areas outside Dublin to get complimentary outdoor Wi-Fi provided by Bitbuzz.
The Bitbuzz Freedom Wi-Fi service lets registered Bitbuzz users avail of Wi-Fi in select locations, and no charges apply for sessions of 20 minutes or less.
“This initiative demonstrates Cork’s desire to stay ahead of the game in the provision of technological services which are in ever-greater demand throughout the world,” said Cork’s Lord Mayor Cllr John Buttimer.
This development makes Bitbuzz the largest outdoor Wi-Fi operator in Ireland and Cork-born managing director Shane Deasy is looking to extend its reach even further. “We look forward to expanding the service to other parts of the city later this year,” he said.
Like the Wi-Fi service provided by Bitbuzz in business locations, such as hotels and coffee shops, Bitbuzz Freedom, which was launched in Dublin last summer, uses multi-band wireless point-to-point backhaul technology to enable users to stay connected on the move.
