Adidas app turns smartphone into workout tool

Adidas’ miCoach apps for the iPhone and BlackBerry bring real-time voice-guided sports training to your phone, turning it into a personal coach.

Using GPS, the voice coaching is activated by the pace the user is running at and the free Adidas miCoach app also offers personalised and sports-specific training plans, workout calendars and workout feedback.

You can keep track of your progress online and share it with friends. The app syncs with the miCoach.com website as well as the Facebook.com/adidasrunning page, where you’ll find six training plans for each of the sports, including football, tennis, running and basketball.

When you sign into the miCoach app it links you to your existing account and starts you off with an assessment workout. Each workout has voice coaching, the option to add your own playlist from iTunes (iPhone app only) and switch on GPS.

Your speed, distance, calories and location data are gathered and workout history can be shared with Facebook friends. Another good idea worked into this app is the option to add shoes/trainers and keep track of their condition by how much running you’ve done in them.

“The introduction of the miCoach app and sports-specific training plans was the natural next step to bring the miCoach facility to an even wider audience,” said Nick Craggs, marketing director for Adidas UK.

“At Adidas we work with the world’s best coaches and athletes and we wanted to share this knowledge and experience with our consumers to inspire and to help them reach their personal goals. Our service approach is unique and sets new standards in terms of personalisation in the entire sporting goods industry,” he added.
