Rumours of delays to the iPad 2 and iPhone 5 have turned out to be unfounded and Apple will reveal the iPad 2 at a special event in San Francisco on 2 March.
Reports from analysts in the US and Asia signalled that both the new iPad and iPhone would be delayed because of production bottlenecks and component shortages. These reports appear to be unfounded and Apple will be holding a glitzy launch event on 2 March.
The iPad 2 will be lighter and slimmer than its predecessor and will feature front and rear cameras. The device will come with FaceTime support and will sport an MDM6600 ‘Gobi’ dual-mode GSM/CDMA chip.
It is also expected that the device will come with enhanced HD display capabilities; potentially the Retina technology that emerged with the iPhone 4 last year.
MacBook Pro and Final Cut Pro launches also expected
Yesterday, reports began to circulate that Apple staff had to sign special non-disclosure agreements before attending a special staff meeting that will take place at the weekend. Those who did not sign could not attend.
Reports also began to circulate that special sealed packages had been winding their way to Apple Stores around the US.
Much of this has to do with the impending unveiling of the latest generation of MacBook Pro notebook computers – possibly even this week – which are expected to come with new LightPeak connector technology.
Another product tipped to be launched is the latest version of Final Cut Pro, which is expected to feature dramatic changes.
