ZeptoLab, the creators of the popular app game Cut The Rope, was named Grand Prix winner at the Europas last night in Berlin. Short-term loans service Wonga picked up the title Best Heavyweight Startup while Irish tech firm Datahug won two awards.
Irish social CRM firm Datahug achieved two Europas awards. The first for Best Irish Startup in the regional awards segment, with CurrencyFair highly commended, and the second for Best Business, Recruitment or Enterprise Startup.
Another gaming firm, Berlin-based Wooga, snatched the People’s Choice Award. More than 300,000 votes were cast to decide the winner of this award, with hundreds of start-ups vying for the prize.
The awards judges included partners from Kleiner Perkins, Accel, Index, Google Ventures and Crunchfund, entrepreneurs like Jawed Karim (founder of YouTube and Youniversity Ventures) and Michael Birch (founder of Bebo, Monkey Inferno) and Lady Gaga’s manager and angel investor Troy Carter.
