Apple misses out on US$32m in app sales after massive App Store glitch

As the world reacted to Apple’s App Store going down for a period of 12 hours, the most profitable company on Earth is concerned with the fact it lost a potential US$32m in app sales.

The company came out to apologise for the outage yesterday that left users seeing nothing but an error message after claiming the issue was caused by an internal DNS error.

Apple said in their statement, “We apologise to our customers experiencing problems with iTunes and other services this morning. The cause was an internal DNS error at Apple. We’re working to make all of the services available to customers as soon as possible, and we thank everyone for their patience.”

However, according to The Inquirer, given that Apple make a reported US$65m every day on App Store sales alone, its outage would equate to almost half of this.

The outage also affected app developers could not connect to iTunes Connect, the suite of developers tools which they use to curate and launch their apps.

Something which went under the radar somewhat yesterday was the downtime experienced by iCloud users, particularly those using iCloud Mail, were also locked out, but this issue was fixed faster than the one affecting the App Store.
