UCD Quinn School of Business awards laptop contract to Typetec
Dublin IT firm Typetec has been selected by University College Dublin’s School of Business as the preferred supplier for its mandatory laptop scheme over the next two years.
Under the agreement, Typetec will supply laptops for the Quinn School of Business’ one-to-one student laptop programme and will provide a comprehensive on-site managed service to support students availing of the programme.
A 30-year-old technology firm that employs 40 people, Typetec works with a number of schools to integrate ICT into curriculum delivery. This encompasses managed services, strategy development, project management and teacher training programmes.
InishTech in cloud telephony deal with Glorsoft
Glorsoft, an independent provider of telephony software to the .NET community, has signed a cloud licensing deal with Inishtech to protect, manage and control the distribution and licensing of its Velocity v3.0 developer toolkit.
Aidan Gallagher, InishTech CEO, said Glorsoft recognised early on that it needed to manage and commercialise its software in the marketplace in an agile, granular way.
Velocity is a specialist .NET development environment for telephony applications, that is fully integrated into Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and the .NET 4.0 framework.
It empowers developers to rapidly create feature-rich IP-based telephony applications, from simple IVR (interactive voice response) applications to high-density call management systems that can handle millions of calls per year.
Twitter acquires mobile security start-up
Microblogging giant Twitter has acquired start-up company Whisper Systems, a maker of software to improve privacy and security for mobile devices. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition provides Twitter with technology to boost the security of the microblogging service, and brings on-side Whisper Systems’ co-founders, Moxie Marlinspike and Stuart Anderson.
Whisper Systems offers programmes that scramble data, text messages and voice conversations on mobile devices that use the Android operating system, so hackers can’t access the information.
