Web domain registrar Register365 has reported a 14pc increase in the registration of domains since 2010, which it says is a positive indicator of growth in Ireland’s online business community.
Statistics from the Centre for Retail Research suggest that more than €200bn was spent by Europe’s estimated 240m online customers in 2012, with e-commerce sales growing by 16pc.
A spokesperson for Register365 explained: “More and more, business owners and managers are realising the importance of being online and are setting up their businesses in addition to their offline activity, as well as new start-up businesses. As businesses start to see their competitors go online, and to see the impact on productivity and profitability, they are increasingly moving towards online presence.
“Another contributing factor is people buying their domains in anticipation of starting a new venture,” the spokesperson said.
