Ireland’s largest hosting provider, Hosting365, has sold off its shared hosting and domain registration business to Namesco, the UK’s fourth largest domain name and hosting provider, for an undisclosed sum.
Namesco, one of the top 50 hosting providers globally, will now have 35pc market share in Ireland.
Namesco’s managing director Kevin Savage said this acquisition was part of the company’s expansion plan, adding that it would provide the same level of services which Register365 customers expect. He did not mention any job loss or creation as part of the acquisition.
Stephen McCarron, managing director of Hosting365, explained the motivation behind the sale of Register365: “Two years ago, we took the strategic decision to acquire our own data centre facility and focus the company on hosted managed services for the enterprise market.
“We have taken the decision to sell Register365 in order to focus on our managed services offering and to continue our growth in Ireland and internationally.
“This was a very personal decision for me to make as Register365 was once the core of the business I founded in 2001.
“We decided to sell Register365 to Namesco as it fundamentally matched our company values and it has an excellent reputation for customer service. For example, it was recently named as the best shared hosting provider of 2008 at the Internet Service Providers’ Association (ISPA) Awards in the UK.”
