Twitter to open office in Indonesia

29 Aug 2014

Twitter is spreading its wings to Jakarta, Indonesia, where the microblogging site will open an office in the next three to six months that will house sales and business development teams, among other staff.

The new office comes as Twitter leverages the fast-growing emerging market in Indonesia in an effort to boost its user numbers and advertising revenue abroad, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Having staff in the country will allow Twitter to work more closely with advertisers and marketers, the newspaper reported Twitter’s global president of revenue and partnerships Adam Bain as having said.

Bain added that the size of Twitter’s audience in Indonesia and how they’re using the platform is “super-invigorating”.

Twitter’s new office in Jakarta will be “a pretty cross-functional office for us in terms of the roles of the people inside the office and the different specialties that the team has,” Bain said.

Indonesia is one of Twitter’s largest markets, analysts have said, with a population of 240m people. Half of those people are under the age of 30, The Wall Street Journal reported.
