At Version 1, culture and career development are key

20 Jan 2016

Version 1 is one of Ireland’s homegrown success stories. Founded in 1996 in Dublin, the IT services company has grown exponentially over the last number of years and now boasts offices in Cork, Belfast and throughout the UK.

As part of the Siliconrepublic.com Employers to Watch 2016 series, we spoke to Jennifer Dolan, HR and engagement manager at Version 1, Dublin.

In addition to talking about the kinds of candidates Version 1 seeks – everyone from graduate level to those with a wealth of experience – Dolan talked in depth about the company’s culture, which, she says, is focused on creating a great place to work.

“We’re committed to building something special, and … we want people to feel that working in Version 1 is more than just a job,” said Dolan.

And that’s certainly true. Around the city centre office, there’s a palpable sense of camaraderie and teamwork that spreads beyond the work itself.

According to Dolan, the company offers a number of programmes – like the health and wellness ethos espoused throughout the organisation – that bring employees together.

Last year, for instance, saw members of the Version 1 team competing in 5km and 10km events, as well as the Leinster Loop.

But culture isn’t the only thing that makes Version 1 an Employer to Watch – their talent development programmes have a lot to do with that, too.

There are training and development opportunities on constant offer within the company, from initiatives that support employees undertaking further study, to in-house courses and events designed to offer employees the chance to grow their career.

Passions include eating all the cake, watching more TV than is healthy and sassy comebacks.
