Job-seekers interested in ‘the sexiest job of the 21st century’ need look no further than that of data analyst, according to CNBC. And with that comes this week’s career memes.
CNBC quoted Rob Bearden, CEO of business computer software company Hortonworks, as having said the role of data analyst “is one of the [most] sought-after positions” at the moment.
The reason being is that more and more organisations are using big data to fine-tune their business targets, and specialists who can pick apart, analyse and spot trends in volumes of data – data analysts – are required to do just that.
Ideally, data analysts will have degrees in maths, statistics, or computer science. Obviously, they will require strong maths and analytical skills, as well as critical thinking, attention to detail, and communication skills, as they will be required to translate and/or present their findings to others.
In Ireland, a data analyst can expect to earn an average annual salary of €23,923 – €47,505, according to PayScale.com.
