Magnet signs 5-year deal with Enet to expand into national hubs

10 Feb 2016

Irish broadband provider Magnet has signed a seven-figure deal with the national network provider Enet to overhaul its network capacity for better broadband speeds.

Enet currently operates 94 Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) on behalf of the Irish State and, with this deal, Magnet will help increase its high-speed broadband in Ireland’s major hubs outside Dublin, particularly Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford and Portlaoise.

This will be done using the 100GB circuits on Enet’s fibre backhaul network, but there is scope to increase this capacity or potentially acquire additional capacity for any other new towns in the future.

In a statement, Enet said access to its networks will allow Magnet to increase its reach in other areas of being a broadband provider, particularly with regard to the growing digital marketplace and cloud services.

Improve speed to national cities

Speaking of the deal, Magnet’s head of product, James Canty, said: “This additional network capacity will have a very positive impact on the speed and efficiency of these services for our customers.”

Enet’s CEO, Conal Henry, added that it will help increase competition for fibre broadband nationally.

“This deal with Magnet further signals our commitment to delivering world-class networks on an open access basis to all Irish, licensed telecom service providers,” he said.

“Our continued investment in fibre infrastructure in both backhaul and within the Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) towns has given service providers a wealth of choice and opportunities when it comes to delivering the very best services to their customers.”
