O2 launches mobile TV service

Mobile operator O2 has just launched a new mobile TV service called ‘O2 TV’, offering TV channels including RTE News Now, CNN, the Travel Channel, Sky Sports and Sky News.

O2 TV is a streaming data service coming in two different consumer packages and will work on a wide range of 3G/HSDPA capable handsets.

The O2 Lifestyle Pack will offer a combination of entertainment, music, and news with channels including RTE News Now, CNN and the Travel Channel, while the Sky Sports & News Pack will provide live sport and news via Sky Sports 1, 2 & 3 and Sky News.

New O2 customers signing up before 9th September will get a free 30-day promotional trial and existing prepay and postpay customers can either pay €1 for a 24 hour pass or subscribe to a 30 day pass for €5 (O2 Lifestyle Pack) or €6 (Sky Sports & News Pack).

So far O2 has only listed various Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung phones as compatible with this service.
