Save the date: Apple sends invites for 22 October iPad event

16 Oct 2013

It’s official: the next-generation iPad will be unveiled on 22 October in San Francisco, California, at the same location where it all began for the Apple tablet.

The first iPad was revealed on 27 January 2010 in the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the 2013 edition will also be showcased there later this month.

Invitations have been sent to members of the press for the event, starting at 10am local time (6pm IST).

The products revealed at the event are expected to be available in time for the holiday buying season, and Apple fans are expecting an iPad mini with Retina display as well as a thinner, lighter iPad with a camera upgrade and the new 64-bit A7 processor.

The new Mac OS, Mavericks, is also expected to be highlighted at the event, as well as an updated Mac Pro computer.

In Apple’s usual tight-lipped fashion, the invites give little away, simply stating, “We still have a lot to cover.”

Strong tablet sales have impacted heavily on the PC market, but it’s also believed that wearable tech and ‘phablet’ devices will chip away at the tablet market, causing analyst firm IDC to lower its sales forecast for 2013.
