More than 3,000 students from University of Limerick (UL) attended their college’s annual Careers Fair today, where 500 jobs were on offer from 124 companies.
“Job prospects are good for UL students and graduates,” said Gavin Connell, the university’s head of careers. “Traditionally, UL’s graduate employment figures trend well above the national average. Despite the challenging environment, UL’s graduate employment rate has continued to rise and our 2011 figure for primary-degree holders is now 16pc higher than the HEA’s most recently available national average figure, which is 46pc for 2010.”
“Our doctorate students are also very much in demand, with 86pc of last year’s PhD graduates currently in employment,” added UL president Don Barry.
The UL Careers Fair has been running for 13 years and this year saw a varied cross-section of industries represented, including IT, biomedicine, pharmaceuticals and aeronautics. Exhibitors included Dell, Google, Abbot, ACI, Cook Medical, Medtronic and Microsoft.
