Today, to honour what would have been Freddie Mercury’s 66th birthday, the Mercury Phoenix Trust – an AIDS charity established in his name in 1992 – is encouraging everyone to be Freddie For A Day, and to raise awareness for the cause while they’re at it.
Freddie For A Day is a unique campaign to raise funds for the Mercury Phoenix Trust that asks people to dress like the flamboyant former Queen frontman for a day. While the site has many suggested outfits, those who want to get involved without parading into work in leather, sequins or drag can simply download the Freddie For A Day ’Tache App for free from the App Store.
The app adds Mercury’s iconic moustache to an image of the user’s face, ready for sharing online to spread awareness of AIDS research ongoing worldwide. And if you’re feeling philanthropic, you can also make a donation to the charity using the app.
Sadly, the app is not available on Android or there would be a pic of my moustachioed mug to go along with this post. Instead, let’s just enjoy some of Freddie’s finest.
