Channel Five inks YouTube deal

3 Dec 2009

UK TV station Channel Five has inked a deal with the Google-owned YouTube to make many of its programmes available for viewing on the video-sharing site.

Under the terms of the three-year deal, programmes such as Australian soaps Neighbours and Home and Away, and original Five programming such as The Gadget Show will be available to view on YouTube for free shortly after they have been aired.

According to reports, US imports are not included and the programmes will only be available in the UK and will be supported with advertising.

The deal is similar to one struck between Channel 4 and Google in October which saw the channel make its UK programmes such as  Peep Show, Skins and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares available to viewers for free online shortly after broadcast.
