Media giant Rupert Murdoch is planning to create a newspaper exclusively for tablet and mobile devices.
The currently untitled paper aims to capture a younger audience, writing “short, snappy stories that could be digested quickly.”
“We’ll have young people reading newspapers,” said Murdoch during News Corp’s August 4th earnings call. “It’s a real game changer in the presentation of news.”
This is the latest attempt from Murdoch to invest in digital news platforms. The Times and Sunday Times recently began charging for its online content.
Murdoch also plans to charge for this app. The fee has yet to be decided.
While there is no official release date for Murdoch’s latest newspaper as of yet, it has been predicted to be launched by the end of the year.
The digital newspaper will compete directly with the New York Times, which has claimed to have had 400,000 of its iPad edition.
The New York Times app is currently free and they are working on a paid version as it aims to charge for online access to news in the next year.
